Anna Leigh Ashford
Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14th, 1980) was an American performer, actor, and dancer. In her early Broadway performances, she starred the role of Essie Carmichael in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. Her performance on stage in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel won her the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actor in a Play. Annaleigh, Tony Award-winning actress as well as director, has spent the bulk of her career working alongside well-known directors and actors in film and on television. Ashford will next be seen starring opposite Kumail Nanjiani on the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales from creator Robert Siegel premiering on November 22. Ashford has been engaged in the production of Searchlight Pictures' horror film Dust which stars Sarah Paulson alongside Ebon and Moss Bachrach. The film will be available on Disney's DTC platforms and will be available as a Hulu Original. It will be released in 2023, March. Ashford returns to Broadway and play alongside Josh Groban in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail as director and Jeffrey Seller as producer will be the creative team for the musical. Ashford was Paula Jones most recently in Ryan Murphy's FX's American Crime Story Impeachment, based off the scandal that involved Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp during the national crisis. Ashford was a part of two seasons on the popular CBS comedy B Positive. It was produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. The show featured Linda Lavin, Hector Elizondo, and Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. The role she played as Essie on You Can't Take It with You won her the Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Some other Broadway credits for Ashford are Sunday in the Park, as George Wicked legally Blonde, and her role as Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots. For this performance, she was awarded a Tony Award nomination. Ashford is a Denver native who now divides her time between Los Angeles.
